Welcome to Kuboya, an enchanting cafe nestled in the heart of Otaru on Sakaimachidori. Here, time seems to stand still as the cafe exudes a nostalgic charm, transporting you back to the Showa era with its beautifully curated antique decor. This quaint hideaway has been capturing the hearts of both locals and visitors for years, making it a must-visit spot in Hokkaido.

At Kuboya, the experience is as delightful as the menu offerings. With a broad variety of options, it caters to both dessert lovers and tea aficionados. Imagine savoring a spoonful of their rich, traditional pudding that melts in your mouth, paired perfectly with a cup of their expertly brewed coffee that radiates warmth and comfort. According to customer 一条莉子, "昭和を感じる素敵なカフェ" ("A wonderful cafe that feels like the Showa era"), this spot truly embodies the essence of nostalgic simplicity while offering a modern twist.

Another standout menu item that brings joy to many—like Steve—is their hot fresh coffee, complemented by divine strawberry parfaits that present a feast for both the eyes and palate. Each sip and bite is a celebration of flavors that encapsulate the essence of Japanese cafe culture.

But it’s not just the food that attracts guests; it’s the cozy, serene atmosphere that encourages relaxation. Customer Kyujin Kim highlights it as "a cozy and quiet cafe to chill," making it an ideal retreat from the bustling streets of Otaru. Whether you’re catching up with friends or seeking a peaceful moment alone with a book, Kuboya offers the perfect sanctuary.

One thing to note, however, is that this charming cafe only accepts cash, as mentioned by a thoughtful patron. So be sure to plan accordingly before your visit!

For those who appreciate artistic flair, Kuboya also showcases exquisite Otaru glass decorations by local artists, further enriching the cultural experience. As Alex Lim shares, it has become their favorite cafe in Otaru, where they enjoy indulging in red bean sweets accompanied by matcha tea each visit.

In short, Kuboya is not just a cafe; it’s a delightful experience waiting to be savored. With its exceptional offerings, enchanting decor, and a cozy atmosphere, it’s the perfect pit stop on your Otaru adventure. Make sure to stop by and indulge in everything this lovely cafe has to offer!

Our favourite cafe in Otaru. The interior is nicely decorated with antiques and there is a section that displays Otaru glass decorations by local artists. Every time we visit this cafe, we order the red bean sweets paired with matcha tea.
